A. Baranauskas and A. Vienuolis-Žukauskas Memorial Museum

In the Memorial House-Museum of a Writer of the first half of 20th century Antanas Vienuolis-Žukauskas (1882-1957), you will have a chance to see the writer’s authentic domestic and creative space. Aside in the garden there is the tomb of Vienuolis A. The museum also houses Antanas Baranauskas (1835-1902) Little Granary built in 1826. It is the first memorial museum in Lithuania. During summer of 1858 to 1859, the poet wrote the poem “The Forest of Anykščiai” (Lithuanian: “Anykščių šilelis”), an anthem to the past of Lithuania, in this small granary. Created under the eaves, it is one of the best known Lithuanian literary works. Nowadays authentic furniture, household items, and books of A. Baranauskas and his family are being kept and displayed here.
